Israeli-Palestinian Injustice

Over the past few years Palestinians have fought with Israelis over the use of the West Bank. The West Bank is a territory by the Jordan River and that is bordered on three sides by Israel. The West Bank was originally a part of Palestine but since 1967 has been occupied by Israel. The majority of the people living in the West Bank are Palestinians, but the Israeli government is in control of it. Since 1967 the Palestinians have seen that the West Bank should belong to them because it originally was theirs and because the majority of people that live there are Palestinian citizens. There have been many fights over the use of the land and in the mid 1990s the West Bank was brought under Palestinian administration but not under Palestinian control. The West Bank has major importance to three monotheistic religions in the world. The towns in the West Bank are historic and important to the Christian, Jewish, and Islamic faiths. The majority of Palestine practices Islam while Israel practices Judaism mainly. The religious history of the land is one reason why there is a constant battle between Israel and Palestine. The Palestinians see the West Bank as their home and will continue to fight the Israelis who have occupied the l

If one was to be Palestinian and lived in the West Bank or was part of the group that constantly battles the Israelis, they should constantly follow their belief that Israel should give control back of the West Bank to Palestine. If Palestinians were to “go along” with the Israeli control of the land then only bad things would happen. Once Israel would see the Palestinians allowing control of the West Bank then the Israel would look for total control of Palestine and any Palestinian territories. The people of Palestine must continue to disobey the Israeli control and fight for their land.

The costs of fighting either way are catastrophic. Should the Palestinians stop fighting and “go along” with Israel they would be subject to further Israeli control and probably more harsh control. Living in the West Bank might turn to living under a tyranny. Total freedoms might be lost for the Palestinians while the Israelis would turn to elitist views and possibly fight for further control of Palestine. Should the Palestinians continue their quest for the West Bank and achieve victory they would forever be seen as enemies by Israel. Being an enemy with a country that is near you can lead to wars, which would attempt to be justified as “holy wars.” Both costs appear to be dangerous but the fact that a person will be able to live on land that is now rightfully theirs and controlled by their own government is enough to make up a person’s mind to continue the fight for freedom.

There is not much that I can write about this experience changing or touching my life first hand. I am not an Israeli nor am I a Palestinian. I am not a Jew nor am I a Muslim. I have not been in the West Bank during the ba
