A challenge that concerns me about the future of our world is the amount of time dedicated to working in an effort to satisfy the growing demands of society. I have witnessed this first hand and I am sure most everyone else has, too. My father and brothers have spent most of their lives working six days a week at ten hours a day. They have no choice but to work these hours in order to pay their mortgages on houses, loans on vehicles and other capital purchases. They are not the only ones wanting brand names and fancy lifestyles as they have children that also have expensive tastes. I found the I.S conference very interesting because they talked about how people have been working harder and longer for the last five years to achieve the ever increasing demand the economy throws at individuals. The thing I have found is that all parts of an individual’s life are affected from working longer and harder hours. Every extra hour worked is an extra hour away from family. Work also has an effect on a person’s religious life, a person who may have been very active taking part in the social activities within the church or the prayer groups may lose touch as their workload increases. These same individuals are mentally exhausted and often
I would believe my goals after I graduate would be very similar to those while in school, treating everyone with equal worth, placing no social standings on people by how they present themselves. I would like to always make time for my family and God no matter how busy my schedule or demanding my job is. I will always remember that I do not live to work, but I work to live. I would also like to still be seen in a proper manner, keeping my Christian values intact and be seen as a very approachable person.
The world vision of hope I have is very similar to the I.S conference. I believe once people find God for their first time or just rediscover God and truly understand what God wishes upon us to achieve as a society we will find happiness and want material goods no more. This is easier said then done. I couldn’t see myself not wearing brand name clothes or driving my new truck, or wearing my fancy watch, truth is it makes you feel good or important and it affects your social standing in society. It will be a tough trend to break. Society has gotten used to working longer hours to achieve their ever so important spot in social standings, and children have gotten use to a babysitter spending more time with them instead of their parents. I know this I.S conference has had a huge effect on me and I’m bringing it to the attention of my family (father and brothers) in hope the conference will have the same impact on them as it did on me. If everyone that attended the conference viewed the same way and relate it to their friends and family maybe society will eventually change or at least become better, so people can find time for church and activities at the church and for their families, so children don’t see life as a factory and live it the same way.
