Prior to Roe Vs Wade in 1973, a woman who found herself with an unwanted pregnancy had very limited choices. It made no difference how she became pregnant; through her “promiscuous” behavior, her failed contraceptive, being raped, or a victim of incest. Her choices were the same;

1) Ask her Doctor for help and advice. He is trusted, he knows her, and he might be

able to help her. She knows that should he decide to perform the surgery then it

would be a safe, and more importantly clean procedure. If he is unwilling to perform the procedure, he may be able to give her the information she needs to find so

3) She can try finding someone to perform an illegal abortion. This is a very dangerous option, as she will not know if the person performing the procedure is competent, or if they will use clean sanitary tools and a clean clinic. Lying there naked in front of a stranger about to perform an illegal operation will leave her vulnerable, and at risk to rape or humiliation. Does she really want to put herself in that situation? Also, what will happen if something goes wrong? What if she cannot stop the bleeding after the procedure? Will she be arrested, if she goes to the hospital for the necessary treatment to save her life after the botched illegal abortion? What if the illegal abortion damages her uterus or womb, and leaves her unable to ever have children?

Yes, most women are born with the ability to conceive. However, there are many people on this earth who do not ever want to be parents. People, who for their own personal reasons, have chosen to not have children. It may be because of an abusive past, it may be that they hate children and do not want that burden. We do not need to know the reason why someone chooses not to have children. It is not a crime. So why should someone who has made a life choice to not have kids, be forced to continue with an unwanted pregnancy because their chosen method of contraception failed? Why should someone who is unable to provide for that child, whether it be emotionally or materialistically be forced to carry on the pregnancy? Why would anyone want a person, who has been raped, to carry on with a pregnancy, causing unknown psychological damage to the mother, and causing the baby to be born into a world of hate? Is that not a form of child abuse?

2) She might consider self-inducing an abortion. This is confidential and inexpensive, provided, of course, that she does not injure herself in the process. Unfortunately, the woman may not know what exactly she should do to attempt this. What if she is unsuccessful, but instead causes damage to the baby, and she still has to go through with the birth? What if she causes physical harm to herself, but fails to abort the fetus?
