Censorship

Ever since the creation of the television and Internet, censorship has been a prime issue in the media industry. Many of the shows we view daily are filled with profanity, violence and sex. We need censorship to protect children from being exploited and exposed to things they shouldn't be.

The Internet has allowed us to access just about anything that we want to. With this we can now send and receive very important messages that could save lives. But with this there is a downfall. The Internet is not always used for good. There are many people out there who abuse it by putting explicit photos on there. When an explicit photo gets put onto the Internet the person gets victimized whenever the photo is shared. The United States Congress just recently passed a legistration that requires all pornographic material be blocked in all pu


We also need censorship on the television. Just this year there was a controversy regarding the halftime at the Superbowl. During the musical performance Justin Timberlake pulled a piece of clothing of Janet Jackson’s breast, revealing it. If we had a law requiring that live performances had a fifteen-second delay, then that would have been edited out. Many parents were upset because the Superbowl is supposed to be a family event and many children were watching.

Censorship will always be a controversial topic in the United States because of the First Amendment rights, and people think that they can say what they think and feel. Censorship is a necessary and beneficial limitation on society.
