Is God Real?
Religion is a widely known topic, to which I have always been very interested in. There are many religions in the world; some people find a particular one they are interested in, others find a religion they grow up with. For me I was born and raised in a Christian home. Just because people spoon feed their religion, doesn’t mean that it is applicable to their life. I was always taught Christian values and the Bible was God’s holy word, but I have always questioned what I’ve been taught, whether it was the truth. In my path to discovery I have tossed and turned with a few questions that will hopefully help me to decide. I have always wanted to know if the content in the Bible was true, why bad things happen to good people, and whether or not the religion I have been taught is just that, a religion, or if it is something more (a relationship). To understand first if the Bible is true or not you have to read its content in its entirety. The very basic foundation of our existence lies within the first passage of the Bible, the choice between evolution and creation. I believe God is the creator of the universe. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, according t
o Genesis 1:1, the first verse of the first chapter in the Bible (pg #1). That is one of the most single important verses as to whether evolution (time) created human existence or if in fact God was at work with a miracle. The book hit me really hard because my brother was born with Cystic Fibrosis. He suffers with breathing complications and digestive problems ever since birth. He believes in God, his creation, and the laws created, but he too questions the religion (Christianity) that we both grew up with. It is not right for God do this to somebody, especially somebody who believes in “him” and his “creation”. Growing up with Christianity in my life I have also had to decide whether or not there is a relationship within this religion. By a relationship I mean accepting Jesus Christ as the savior of the world; that he died for my sins and rose again. I have several options to choose from. I could ignore everything I was told growing up. I could just ride the Christian train and just go along with it, or I could actually choose to make Jesus Christ the engineer of the train. According to Billy Graham, a widely known T.V. evangelist, “40% of the world has chosen to ride the “Christian” labeled bus” (pg #13). To me brings everything full circle back to the original question regarding spoon fed religion. Of the 40% of the world Billy Graham was talking about, how many of them actually made a personal choice to believe Jesus as the savior and accept him in their heart. If there is a heavenly creator (God) and there are laws set before us, it is only fai
