Globalization

Globalization, whether we like it or not, is playing an increasingly important role in our daily lives, personally and also globally. This essay argues that globalization, whether viewed in a positive or negative light, indirectly links struggling people of many different backgrounds and opinions across the world. It does so by making the following three points with respect to globalization; first, globalization leads to conflicting ideas of ethnocentrism; second, globalization leads to a continuous struggle to remain at the top of the geopolitical ladder; and third, globalization leads to the economic suffering and inequality of people from both third and first world countries because of ethnocentrism and the struggle for global power.

To begin, it is not surprising that globalization leads to conflicting ideas of ethnocentrism in a national respect. Edwin Locke of the Ayn Rand Institute argues in his paper, “ On Flag Day Celebrate America’s Core Values: Reason, Rights, and Science”, that America’s culture is with out a doubt, the best . Locke argues that logic, and individual rights have progressed science and technology. In turn, these factors in combination with both science and technology have fueled globalization.

This has led to the modern industrialized society that we know today . As a result, man has increased wealth, comfort, freedom and life expectancy. Locke believes since these rights and privileges are mostly implemented in America, America’s culture is the best in the world. Those to whom globalization has not been so kind (such as third world countries) are, according to Locke, culturally unequal. Because of their so-called unwillingness to accept technology, third world countries are still suffering from man made and also natural disasters . Since globalization is constantly increasing large-scale production and industry in favour of the United States, it is clear why Locke would argue that American culture, and all that goes along with it, is factually ‘the best’. In conclusion, globalization leads to conflicting ideas concerning ethnocentrism in a national respect.

Next, with respect to “Rebuilding America’s Defenses” it is clear that both the causes and effects of globalization lead to a continuous, competitive struggle for global power. Globalization has caused the United States of America to become an unrivaled world super power . As a result, the government of America feels that they must protect themselves and their position. In order to do this, they must secure their standing at whatever cost. This defense report discusses the methods in which the United States of America must undertake in order to remain at the top of the geopolitical ladder for as long as possible. Unfortunately for America, this is a constant struggle. Although America is unrivaled economically and defensively, there are potentially powerful countries that are willing to change the balance of global power . The world, according to this Defense Report, under the global leadership of the United States of America, is one of peace. If Pax Americana, of peace with American global leadership, is to continue, American needs to maintain its international standing in which globalization has placed it . The Defense Report argues that in order to preserve America’s position in the geopolitical hierarchy, it needs a strong military, a well-defined foreign policy and powerful government whose aim is to sustain America’s place in the world. The report suggests that the fundamental course of action is t
