Peter Johannes Waardenburg discovered Waardenburg syndrome. He was the first to notice that some people with two different eye colors often had hearing problems. There are four types of this syndrome. Type I and Type II is most common. Klien-Waardenburg syndrome and Shah Waardenburg are the other two types. Most of the time this syndrome is characterized in three basic primary ways.
The first is hearing. Not all those with the syndrome have hearing problems. Only about one out of five has severe hearing loss that requires some aid.
