Frida kahlo

Frida Kahlo was born on July 6, 1907, as Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderón. Three years after Kahlo's birth the Mexican Revolution began. This was a major event in Mexican history as well as an influence on much of Kahlo's art. She was a surrealist painter which means that she expressed her deepest feelings and thoughts through her paintings. The public viewed her as a high spirited yet rebellious woman who liked to paint what she knew. Her daily life was reflected into most if not all of her paintings, and she used her painting as an escape to express her emotions. Her unique style has made her one of the most famous Mexican artists of her time.

At age 6, Frida was diagnosed with polio, which made her right leg much thinner than her left, and it remained that way for the rest of her life. When Frida entered high school she was the ringleader of a rebellious group that consisted mostly of boys that continually caused trouble in the National Preparatory School. They enjoyed doing pranks (mostly on professors). It was also at the National Preparatory School that she first came in saw her future husband Diego Rivera, who was being paid to paint a mural in the school's auditorium.

She again became secluded and lonely. She started painting again just like she did when she had first learned to paint. But in America no one took her art seriously. She

As soon as she was able to move her arms, she wrote letters to her boyfriend Gómez, telling him about how badly she was hurt and how much she had missed him. She begged him to come and visit her. Frida desperately sent him letter after letter expressing her feelings for him.

She began expressing her feelings through her paintings. Her unhappiness was easy to see in her gruesome portraits. Many of her paintings during this time shocked the world.

matter how interesting or strange the Americans considered her, she was still “just Diego’s wife.”

She has influenced many places in Mexico and around the world, and they all have come up with unique ways to honor her. There are Frida landmarks, restaurants, and even cults. People were drawn to Frida because they loved her personality and it was so easy to share in her depression and anger. She died on July 13, 1954. No official autopsy was ever done, but suicide is rumored. Her last words in her diary say: “I hope the leaving is joyful and I hope never to return” A museum was eventually built in her honor and exhibits many of her paintings. The last thing said at her funeral was: “Friend, sister of the people, great daughter of Mexico; you are still alive.”

All this pain and suffering inspired her to paint some of the best painting of her entire life. She used her artwork to convey her emotions to the person that was viewing it. You are able to tell how much pain and suffering she had just by looking at one of her paintings.

Many Americans enjoyed seeing Frida because of her unusual clothing and appearance, it was so much different than that of the Americans. In her hair she wore flowers and ribbons that were usually accompanied by a long skirt and petticoat. But no
