Why go to school?
One can educate one self through the simplest resource as using the library every day. So why do we come to school? Well, we don’t “have” to go to school after we turn 16 years of age. Is the answer is because of education? Well, what is education anyways? In the dictionary, Education is defined as “a systematic development or training of the mind, capabilities, knowledge, or skill; especially, formal ‘schooling’ in an institution of learning. I have asked myself the above question hundreds of time and the excerpt of Hirsh, Walden, and Bloom proves that the answer is because of education. Education in school conducts the decisions made in life to reach your success. Happiness is the place where everyone wants to achieve. For example, in Hirsh’s Cultural Literacy, he says, “Of the views of education, none is more important, none more legitimate, than of rendering the people the safe, as they are the ultimate, guardian of their own liberty.”(What Every American Needs To Know 1988, The School We Need 1996, page 18) Freedom is another road to happiness, but real freedom is achieved through education for you have to be happy when free. No matter how much you reason for another way out to acquire your happine
As education plays an important role in out lives, it needs to take its time, so we will be able to consume the most wisdom it has to offer. For example in Walden’s Where I :Lived and What I Lived For, he says “I did not live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation unless it was quite necessary.” (Henry David Thoreau, 1845 Paragraph 1) Why dispute everything we have learned and work a job of low pay when a result of staying in school is very satisfactory. Without education, it would be like life was over, for it would be a hard life with nothing suitable and would not be a real life until you have reached what you have worked for; living a life without fulfillment would be a difficult life to survive in. Success is not something that falls out of the sky into your lap or something you pick out of a tree. It is something you earn through accomplishing many of your goals. Although success through education takes time, you learn more through the flowing current of this time, wherever it takes you. As Walden says, “When we are unhurried and wise we perceive that only great and worthy things have any permanent and absolute existence.” (IBID Paragraph 4) Education is an adventure with many great things to experience and learn from. It does tend to take some time, but that is the way to see what life holds ahead of you. If you do get to see what the future holds for you, you will see that the product of education will guarantee you a happy life, but the outcome of education will probably lead to a sad or unhappy live. Further more he adds, “If men would steadily observe realities only, and not allow themselves to be delude, life to compare it with such things as we know, would be like a fairy tale and the Arabian Nights Entertainment.” (IBID Paragraph 4) There are ups and downs in everything including education, because there are many villains to fight and with lots of action. The conclusion of the road of education holds a big ‘happily ever after’ sign. ss, it is education that will get you to where y
