The United States Education System – It’s Drawbacks

I believe the time has finally come where it is MY TURN to tell the world about a diligent student who is being held back by the United States Education System. This is a reflection of my personal experience throughout my life and I would enjoy sharing them with you.

I had worked my way up to becoming the top of my class. This was no easy road to venture upon either because I had gotten lyme disease when I was at a mere age of three. This had put my mental status to only one of a child that is a year old and as a result I had been placed in special education. I had worked as hard as I could with a private tutor on our low budget, my mother and the person that had put the most impact on my life – my first grade teacher. She had worked with me one on one and through hard work and dedication, on both of our parts, I had not only risen to the normal education level of a first grader, but I was ahead of most of my peers and no longer in the special education program. By the end of t

hat year, I had received an award for the most improved student in our elementary school.

At this time I had changed schools and although the school that I had changed to had some academic advantages, it also had academic disadvantages. These disadvantages included such things as easier course load, lesser of a selection of courses and a school where the students had more negative rule over the classrooms of regular courses (non – honorary) then teachers had positive rule. This combination had put me at a stand still. When I had first started school, I wished to graduate early, and was denied because of differences in state requirements. Although academically capable, when I had suggested independent study as an alternative I was denied due to it not being available on their course selection sheet. When I had come up with yet another solution of having me take the course independent study but be on the class roster, they denied yet again, where as my old school would have gracefully allowed this as it shows initiative and responsibility. <
