Suicide

Suicide is a deliberate self killing and is one of the most private acts anyone can do. In todays world dying is a voluntary choice which each individual has. Many people have different opinions on the morality of suicide. In this essay I will value the worth of different opinions and come to a conclusion on the rightness or wrongness of suicide. In this essay I will look at suicide and the sanctity of life. Sanctity is the value of life. The value of life is the highest of all values and therefore no other possible values can change this.

Thirdly is an argument made by Aquinas. He argues that suicide can be justified to suffer a lesser danger and avoid greater evil. Aquinas uses the example of a man whose arm is decayed and needs to be removed from his body. He says that by the man killing himself he avoids a greater evil such as living in shame of sin. On a moral ground surely it is hard to say that another person is not entitled to end their own life.

By doing this we disturb the course of nature. We also disturb the course of nature by changing the channels of a river such as the Nile. Hume says that what then is criminal of ‘turning a few ounces of blood from their natural channel.’ Here we see the contradictions in natural law.

Another claim against suicide is the possibility of rational suicide. Ja
