Uniforms: A prevention method or not
Uniforms: A Prevention Method or Not? The right to freedom of speech has long been a key part of the United States democratic system of government. Today parents, educators, and elected officials remain divided over mandating school uniforms to help control violence in America’s public schools. Those of the learning community have the difficult task of deciding whether or not mandatory school uniforms infringe upon the rights of students in public schools, and maintaining social order in these schools as well. Throughout history, uniforms have played a very important role and served several positive functions. With violence in America’s public schools at all time levels, setting forth policies to help prevent violence is a very important issue. In between each of these groups of people are those that agree with school uniforms, but also believe that some guidelines need to be set before it can really be effective. They suggest asking parents, educators, and elected officials, to all work together for one common goal, which is to have school uniforms in public school. If students are involved as well in the decision they will be more likely to agree to the change. Research shows that uniforms do help control violence. Although, when uniforms are forced to quickly into schools, students do not benefit at all because there still will be the distinction of social status. For this to work best, these people agree that this must be implemented while the children are at a young age and get use to wearing uniforms. Administrators
