At the age of twenty-three Washington became interested in running for office. His first try at office was running for the House of Burgesses in Virginia, which was the first government and first elected assembly in the American colonies. However he was young and did not receive enough votes. Washington never gave in to defeat, so he tried running for office again; this time in Winchester County, Washington, but did not win that election either. It is strange that Washington had problems trying to get into office, since in his life he would become the first president of the United States and be great at it.

Ultimately, Washington had a major impact on the United States not only in presidential procedures, but also winning our freedom. If it were not for George Washington the United States Government would not have a Supreme Court or Cabinet. Also the United States may not have gotten its independence so soon, since Washington was persistent enough to beat the British during the American Revolution. He also paved the way for a strong federal government and individual liberties. His contributions to the way the United States works today are still being seen, mostly in government procedures. All in all Washington is still perceived as a great president throughout the United States.
