Leadership Essay on Vince Carter
Leaders are people who step up and take action. People who strive to change their surroundings or even the world. All leaders have traits and characteristics that define them as a leader such as creativeness, organizational, motivational, reliability, communication and teamwork. One particular leader that has many of these characteristics and is admired by many people is Vince Carter.Vincent Lamar Carter was born on January 26, 1977 in Daytona Beach, Florida. His athletic talent was shown at a young age as Vince Carter was the only starter in grade seven on Campbell Junior High School’s varsity basketball team. Carter was extremely involved in school activities as he was in Mainland High School’s marching and jazz bands, was the captain of the volleyball team, and was named the most gifted and decorated basketball player at Mainland High School. Carter graduated in 1995 with honours and he was voted the state of Florida’s Basketball Player of the Year along with being voted to the USA Junior National Team where he got to the World Championships. After high school, Carter attended the University of North Carolina where he played for the Tarheels and received the statistical leader award for two straight years. He was the
5th pick in the National Basketball Association rookie draft. Carter was named Rookie of the Year in his first NBA career season as a Toronto Raptor and has continued his success right to this day. Vince Carter is a role model to everyone especially those that have been directly helped through his charitable contributions. He is liked by many because of his athletic ability on the court, exhibiting astonishing moves and able to rally his team to victory at times. He has also been recently compared to Michael Jordan, but he has insisted that he is nothing close to the basketball legend. But aside from being active, many admire him because of all his community work and all the time and energy he has spent helping those who are less fortunate. His contributions are countless because he has been involved in so many different fundraising events. He has hosted the annual Vince Carter All-Star Charity game for three years, and it does not look like its going to end anytime soon.
