Ted Bundy: Beneath The Mask

He wasn't a stereotype of a homicidal killer. He was smart, good looking, and charming. He worked at the phones at Seattle Crisis Clinic. It is ironic that he was very good at keeping people alive. He was a convincing actor. Those who knew him couldn't believe that a monster lay under his charming personality. Over the years he had many names and masks.

One of the major things that lead to his capture, I think is the attempt to kidnap Carol DaRonch on November 8, 1974. Ted impersonated a police officer and told her that her car was broken into. She looked at it and it looked fine to her. He leads her to a building that he tells her is the police office, but it was locked. The building was in fact the back to a laundry place. Afer this she gets into his WV bug to go to another police station. She assumes that he is off duty and this is a regular vehicle. She starts to get nervous when he keeps driving, so she wanted out. She opens the door and falls out. They fight

He was not content with his newfound freedom and was unable to control his murderous impulses. This leads to another major event that leads to his down fall. In 1978 he entered the Chi Omega House and attacked the sleeping coeds one at a time by sneaking into each victim's room and knocking them unconscious. Two of the young women died of the severe injuries and two more survived with crushed skulls. Here he messes up and leaves clues. He is caught a little over a month later by a Pensacola police officer. Once the officers identify the suspect as Bundy they order impressions of his teeth to compare with bite marks on one of the Chi Omega victims. The match was indisputable and would seal Bundy's fate once and for all. He was tried and convicted of murder. He was sentenced to the electric chair. He tried to delay death by confessing to the murders. He confessed to killing 30 women in seven states. Almost nine years after his conviction his last appeal failed. He was executed in the Florida State Prison at the age of 42. People partied about it. He was a celebrity as the most hated man in the U.S. The day before he died, he blamed early exposure of porn as the reason he did it all.

He got extradited to Colorado in 1977 for the murder of Caryn Campbell. Her raped and battered body had been found on February 17, 1975, and investigators felt they had sufficient evidence to link Ted to the crime. Bundy, being a former law student was given special privileges to use the Pitkin County Courthouse library. He waited until no one was looking
