Many immigrants came to America in dreams that they would soon start a new life, and if alone, most wanted to send money back home and eventually get the entire family to start a new life. Immigrants stepping off the boats first stepped onto Ellis or Angel Island where they would be greeted quickly by government organizations such as political machines. ON their pursuit of the “American Dream” they would come to America, make money, send money home, and then ultimately bring the family to America to live a happy and prosperous life. This was something that most people dreamed of, but obviously did not some true for everyone.
