At the beginning of the play, Shakespeare defines Macbeth as a hero very clearly. From the courages in defense of Scotland is significant in the opening scene. However, he is very ambitious to be king. At the beginning of the play, he was loyal to the king. While he did imagine of murder his mind rejects it and said, "Why, if fate will have me king, why, chance may crown me," ( Act I, Sc 3, p.44-45).

Yet increasingly his ambition defeated his good nature. When Duncan named Malcolm the Prince of Cumberland, Macbeth decided on the murder of Duncan. When Duncan arrived at Inverness, Macbeth controled his ambition for the time being and did not kill Duncan. The failing of his decision was soon reflected by Lady Macbeth who called him a coward. From then on, after the murder of Duncan, Macbeth entered into a life of evil.

Such a soliloquy has Scotland looking down upon him, for he seems relentless and bloody. The thoughts of a murderer are basically that in which the soliloquy represents. He has made himself out to be exactly that in which they perceive. Scotland sees Macbeth as a pitiable man up to no good and proceed to unravel previous assumptions made by the nobles. "Some say he’s mad", which the nobles conclude, and Macbeth has definitely proven himself to be. Macbeth claims that the lives of the men he proceeds to murder have no significance, yet the country thinks otherwise, for they are dignified nobles with a purpose.

William Shakespeare's play Macbeth shows us that cheating will not get you were you want to go. Macbeth was written in the 16th century England during the Elizabethan period, because of this the story has a complex plot and many themes that the people in the Elizabethan period would enjoy. The character Macbeth has many traits that Shakespeare used to develop Macbeth throughout the play and even how the character Macbeth advances the theme of the play.
