George Soros

He is an economic genius. George Soros has strived above all using his Quantum Fund, intelligent financial moves, stability in investment, and philosophy in economics. Soros is a model for the way investing should be done. Soros has made it to the 28th richest man in America, with a net worth of $7 billion dollars from his hedge funds. This is his story.

George Soros is currently President of Soros Fund Management and Chief Investment Advisor to Quantum Fund N.V. The Quantum Fund is a $12 billion international investment fund, which is generally recognized as having had the best performance record in the world during its 25-year history. If you had invested $1,000 the Quantum Fund when it was first started in 1969, you would be worth $4 million by the year 2000. So if it sounds this easy, how does George Soros make his millions? Soros' Quantum Fund makes money by anticipating economic shifts around the world. For example, in 1992 Soros reflected upon how he thought the British pound would lose value because of political and economic pressures. He borrowed billions of pounds and converted them to German marks. When the pound collapsed Sept. 16, Soros repaid the pounds at the lower rate and pocketed the difference. Soros’s prof

Soros was one of the first investors to actually hunt down great opportunities around the world and basically construct a throng of imitators and fellow enthusiasts with Soros’s same ideas. Bryon Wien, the chief domestic investment strategist at Morgan Stanley Dean Witter, who has known Soros for about 30 years said, “George opened all of our thinking to macroeconomic theory, and he made globalists of us all by making us understand the importance of geopolitical events on the U.S. economy”. Soros decided to put aside tending to the Quantum day by day in 1989, but is still consulted on major trades and is one of three supervisors of Soros Fund Management, which is the firm in New York that oversees Quantum and his other funs.

Soros was also called a man of many contradictions. When Soros was telling the US Congress that the Quantum fund, along with himself, did not need regulating, at the same time, he was telling European governments that they should be watching out for people like him. I wouldn’t call Soros being contradicting. ‘All Europe really needed, Soros said, was a more tightly regulated financial system, in which speculators like himself couldn’t profit from fluctuating exchange rates’. Soros’ logic was clear. Like it was said before, all Soros did was make smart economic moves. He waits until the right moment to strike, and then does.

In another interview with Wien he says that the thing that makes George different is that wealth is not his objective in life. That is absolutely key. Wien says that it is the intellectual excitement of the challenge the appeals to Soros. Once Soros has the money, Wien says he uses it in constructive ways and not hastily and irresponsibly. Soros gives away about $300-million dollars a year, even if he had a bad year.

Born in Hungary, of Jewish descent, George Soros and his family narrowly escaped the Holocaust. He landed penniless in London, but by sheer genius and extreme hard work, he rose to become one of the world’s most successful investors and richest men. Not to mention, he became a world-class philanthropist, philosopher, confidant of world leaders, and bankroller of world freedom, in which it is said that his currency plays also did break the Bank of England.

Soros’s cautions about the capitalist threats have people looking at him as nothing less than sightless hypocrisy. They only see him as a rich man who has made his great amount of money and can afford the luxury of a social conscience. You can argue what people have been saying both ways. Many believe that Soros is a genius in the field of marketing. He has strived further than many investors have. Soros has been at the way bottom and pulled himself to the top, which was an amazing accomplishment. He is living proof that with hard work and dedication, you can accomplish whatever you want. So, Soros is an inspiration to many, and through his books, he tries to lend his own hand out to the public to share his knowledge of
