Gender Difference

Lack of communication lead to divorce among men and women, this would be the basic thesis in "Sex, Lies and Conversation: Why is it so hard for men and women to talk to each other?" by Deborah Tannen.
Tannen discusses the fact that men and women have a difficult time understanding each other because of their different expression or reaction toward a situation. Women and men tend to misinterpret each other's signals, body language and/or expressions. Tannen, writes that "the tendency of men to face away can give women the impression they aren't listening even when they are." This is true because women think guys don't care because they are not paying attention, but deep down they do, we just don't know what's going on inside their heads.
Tannen stresses the fact that men and women have different interpretations toward things because they have been brought up differently. "Bonds between boys can be as intense as girls, but they are based less on talking, more on doing things together." Based on this quote, Tannen, says that girls are more secretive in communication and boys are more open in communication. When girls fellowship their conversations are intimate. Thus basing their relationships on communication. On the other hand, guys grow relationships by interacting and participating in more of physical activities expressing more emotion through physical action then through communication. Both women and men have emotional attributes in character, but expressed them by different means. One can deduce that both girls and guys will expect a familiarity in present and future relations with that of prior ones. .
In "The Storm", by Kate Chopin, Calixta a married woman with a child and Alacee also a married man with kids, both had an affair with each other, because of the lack of communication with their spouses. Calixta needed to feel loved and affection, her husband Bobinot wasn't pleasing her needs in marriage, so she turned to someone else.
