Teens Legal Rights

Whether we admit it or not judgment is a key thing in our everyday life. We pass judgment on the things we eat, the situations we face, and the people in our lives. Stereotyping is also a form of judgment. If we see someone walk by in high heels, fishnet stockings, a short skirt and bright red lipstick, we pass the judgment to stereotype her as a hooker or slut, when we don’t know that she could go to church every weekend and have outstanding morals.

This may be a reality that no one wants to face but it’s true for everyone, just more so to some than others.

As teen-agers we often find that 7 times out of 10 we are stereotyped to be irresponsible and emotionally unstable. Put those things on a resume, and we’d get all the things we get today.

Just because we are all in the same age group does no mean we are all irresponsible and emotionally unstable.

During my research of this topic I realized that media is bias with adults.

I found a lot more articles that labeled teen-agers – as a whole – as “Bad People” rather than ones that recognizes us for good doings.

With the restrictions we have to face, a lot of teenagers feel trapped and feel like they are being treated like children – when we are t

Many teenagers have different personal expectations. Some have goals, some don’t, and most really want to achieve those goals. With all the restrictions it makes it harder to actually make it.

There are a lot of teenagers who could do this, and many other situations like this, such as rent, cable bills, phone bills, and others. If they got the chance to prove themselves I think they could make it.

Now with all of this research, I feel that the point I am going to make is valid.

We don’t have many rights as minors. We aren’t allowed to get certain kinds of jobs, and the jobs we do get, we are only allowed to work a certain amount of hours every week and not after 9:00 either. In some states if your parental figures let you get a job, they are entitled to your earnings. They have the right to take your money and spend it as they wish, as long as it’s legal.

A short survey revealed that 4 out of 5 girls wanted definitely to go to college, or some schooling after high school. It also showed that 2 out of 5 boys wanted to go to college, 1 didn’t know, 1 didn’t think so, and one definitely wasn’t going.

In another survey I did I realized that maybe differences aren’t as vast as I thought. Many teen-agers all want to do the same things. Hang out with friends, go to the movies, have fun. Some are more into family things, some read, some workout, others paint, play instruments, dance, and sleep.
