Kyoto Zenrinji, a Japanese painter, painted the picture, “Amida Descending over the Mountains” in the thirteenth century A.D. The picture is of the Japanese god Amida looking over some people of Japan. This painting was done on a silk scroll with ink.
It appears to have a four-dimensional quality with the way that Zenrinji does it. The first dimension shows the people that seem to be going to war. The faces on the warriors’ are painted and two men are standing across the river looking as though they are ready to fight. The coloring in the first dimension or foreground is a bit on the bold side. It shows a dark side even with the colors being pastel in nature. The third dimension of the painting is the main subject of the painting. It shows Amida, the Buddhist Japanese God, rising above the mountains watching over his angels and the people at war. He is a very colorful figure in the painting with two different shades of blue, a dark sky blue around his arm and a lighter shade of blue around his shoulders. Around the lighter shade of blue, there is a goldish yellow. He also has a halo, which could be considered part of the background depending on which way one looks at the picture.
