The most overt items on today’s market, is the ever changing Barbie. But she hasn’t always been changing over time. When Barbie was first introduced to ken in 1961, it showed that Barbie was ready to settle down and have a family. But just when you thought Barbie was going to settle down, there comes a new line of Barbie “Sorority Slut Barbie.” Barbie has been poked fun at in so many ways that it has finally come to a rigorous halt. While viewing my friend’s webpage, being a sorority girl herself, I came across a picture that was rather cute. It was a picture of Barbie, just thrown on the bed with a cheerleader uniform on, and her panties pulled down around her ankles. It is called “Sorority Slut Barbie.” When I first looked at this, I laughed just like everyone else who saw it I’m sure. But there is a deeper meaning than just a funny picture of this American Icon. Barbie’s role in public has given way to a new generation as Barbie will ever remain as a Pop icon. Her morals to little girls have been demoralized and analyzed too much to the point that no one wants to listen. When I looked at this picture I didn’t want to believe that Barbie was “sluttish”. The feminist and pessimists about Barbie have over used the childhood role model. Barbie’s role in society is to merely show kids that they can be anything they want. It’s to teach us that there are better things out there and you can succeed. On the contrary, it’s not to show us that we are machines and we must look like one another. But the pictures antics are no match for the overpowering monopoly of Barbie. Through the hard times of being pictured as a “sorority slut” and the good times of selling to the audience, Barbie will always be the most important figure in the modern world.
I remember growing up and playing with GI Joe’s. They taught me how to be strong and manly. Barbie also does the same thing with girls of all ages. Giving girls a chance to use their imagination and do what they want will show them new things they’ve never experienced. Barbie teaches individuals that they can be who ever they want to be. But the one underlying fact is that it doesn’t show us how to look different. The picture uses Barbie and no other action figure, to show how girls have grown up to look just like Barbie. It is a dream of most girls to acquire the looks of Barbie. Girls grow up reading magazines and listening to music, but th
