Interpersonal Communication

Luis Vargas is a wealthy Cuban coffee merchant. Luis and his future wife, Julia, have only communicated with each other through letters they send one another. Luis and Julia are arranged to get married on the day Julia arrives in Cuba. Julia meets Bonny on the boat ride going to Cuba. Bonny’s boyfriend, Billy, kills Julia and tells Bonny that Julia had had an accident and she needed to take her place. Bonny takes Julia’s place and marries Luis.

The entire time Luis thinks Bonny is Julia. Months pass and Bonny is falling in love with Luis, but that wasn’t part of her plan. Detective Downs, sent by Julia’s sister, is now in search of the real Julia. When Luis informs Bonny that they are going to meet with Detective Downs she becomes indecisive about whether or not to take Luis’s money, for the reason that she fell in love with him. The next day Bonny disappears and takes all of Luis’s money with her. Luis figures out that the women he was married too was not Julia. But an imposter acting as her. Luis is depressed and in much pain without Bonny. Detective Downs and Luis go in search of Bonny and Julia. Luis ends up finding Bonny, as he holds a gun towards her she cries out how she feels for him an

d explains how she tried to buy off Billy to leave her alone so she could live forever with him, but Billy was greedy and wanted more money. Luis and Bonny ran off together and started a new life.

Their love for one another was personally rewarding for the both of them. These type of relationships are rare and can not be replaced not matter how many other relationships you have with others. Luis and Bonny’s personal relationship is special. It takes up time and energy to develop an entire new qualitative relationship; therefore, those types of relationships are often scarce and not many are formed.

Luis and Bonny’s relationship was irreplaceable to both of them. Luis was the first man Bonny had ever fallen in love with that wasn’t Billy. Billy would constantly tell her “Who would want you! You are nothing but a whore! Always have been and always will be!” Bonny actually had some who loved her (Luis), and didn’t care about what type of person she was or what type of life she lived. Bonny was the first women Luis had ever loved in his life. She became his world and what he lived for and he began to believe that he couldn’t live with out her. Luis finally had something else to live for other than his big coffee company. The payoff he received from Julia was just her company.
