The Riddle of the Sphinx: The Updated Virsion
The Riddle of the Sphinx: The Updated Version. What goes on four legs at dawn, two at noon, and three at dusk? This was the riddle that the Greek sphinx plagued the people of Thebes with. Every time that this enigma was not answered, the sphinx would devour the man who answered incorrectly. Eventually, a man by the name of Oedipus gave the proper answer: man, who crawls on all fours in infancy, walks on two feet when grown, and leans on a staff in old age; the sphinx thereupon killed herself. This cyclical course of man is the same cycle that the world population has become subject to.
