With the intention of making a change in this rising crime parents and adults need to become educated on the existence of the child prostitution problem in local communities. Communities need awareness of the problem and the extent that it may or may not be occurring in their community (Missing Kids). In addition, teaching the community about the profiles of potential runaways will help the community identify those children at risk. In doing so, there exists a chance that the community can direct the child toward a service that can best assist them in their problems (Missing Kids). Another way towards crack down on the problem of teen prostitution can make children aware of both the dangers on the streets and the dangers inherent in prostitution (Missing Kids). Prevention education programs focus on teaching junior and senior high school students about the dangers of prostitution and the myths about sexual exploitation. The educational programs inform children of counseling services in their community. The initiation of some kind of program that cracks down on the pimps and men who sexually exploit minors exists as the last and probably most important step towards preventing child prostitution. There should be citywide police patrolling of the pimps and the men who buy the sex. These individuals should be locked up and charged with sexual molestation and exploitation of minors.

American adolescents and teenagers that become involved with this sort of awful crime for the majority existed as victims of sexual molestation by a parent or other adult figure. Many of these children live in en route of love and compassion and chose prostitution as an outreach for affection. Entry into prostitution can become a passive acceptance of a social reality - thus the child believes prostitution is expected of him or her (“Children of the Night”).
