My Experience When I Was New
All people around the world have their own ways of living, or they have different kinds of life style. And, their belief about things vary depend up on what kind of back ground they have. It amazes me when I think about all different kinds of culture because they are numerous. For people who move from their native country to another place may be very hard to adjust the culture. It always takes a while to learn other people’s culture and language. I am from Ethiopia, and I have lived in San Diego for about five years. I only lived in San Diego ever since I came to United States. When I first came U.S, I didn’t like it because a lot of things were not the same with what I have experience. Therefore, it became really hard for me to fit in; lots of things in America shocked me. The three things that were not the same with back home when I first came were food, diversity of the people, and homosexuality. The food was really hard for me to get used to because our food is different from American food. The food that we eat called injera (very thin bread-like which made up of flour). Injera can be eaten with stew made up of meat, vegetable, lamb, chicken and so on. This stew is usually spicy. I ate injera w
Finally, every country has their own culture and it is hard for other people to learn it. It was not easy for me to learn American culture. It took me a while to adjust American culture. My experience in back home and here was not the same. Although it was hard for me to learn American food and other culture in here, now I eat fast food, Chinese food, and Mexican food etc most of the time. Also, I like to try all kinds of food now. Another thing surprise me was the diversity of people. Further more, I was shock when I see homosexual people because we didn’t have it in back home. In addition to the taste of the food, the way of eating was different from back home as well. In back home, people do not eat separately like American people do. They have to wait on each other. The whole family eats together in one big plate especially lunch and sinner. When I was new, I was shocked when my mother gave me food alone in the small plate. And, I told her that I have never eaten by my self. But, she said “America is not like back home and every thing is different from back home”. I had no choice, so I had to eat alone. Because I did not used to eat alone in back home, I could not eat that much. How ever as the time has gone I started to eat well. Homosexuality was very difficult issue to me. First of all, I had never seen homosexual people in back home when I was there. However, I heard about it right before I came to U.S. in Ethiopia, homosexuality is forbidden. There is nothing
