In 2000, the controversial lyrics of a white rapper named Eminem’s second album, “ The Marshall Mathers LP” became very publicized. Among other things, he rapped about his drug addict mother, hating women, killing his girlfriend, being homophobic, and influencing children. Some of his thoughts were more graphic than others, but nonetheless, Eminem claims to be saying it all as a joke and therefore it should not be taken as more than that. According to the United States Constitution, Eminem has the right to Freedom of Speech therefore he can exercise this amendment to the fullest extent.

“The Marshall Mathers LP” contains extremely controversial lyrics. Eminem claimed that everything he wrote about was just venting emotions he felt at that particular time. He also claims that he would never actually do the things th


at he raps about, but that his lyrics are simply therapeutic to him. Eminem claims that the main reason the public does not like what he has to say is because he is white, which means suburban white kids who enjoy rap will automatically feel like they can relate to him and the things he is saying are not what white parents want their children to emulate.
