Many people believe that schizophrenia is a “split personality” or “multiple personalities”. Little do they know that schizophrenia does not consist of that, but it is a disorder that is much more complex than most people perceive it.
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that affects the person’s mind and disables the person to use their mind clearly and how to relate to other people’s emotions. When a person has symptoms of schizophrenia they have hallucinations, distortions of normal sounds, tastes, odors, images, and voices. These distortions and hallucinations can be brief or can last for a very long time vividly and very detailed, though some can be vague and blurry. Disorganized thinking is another symptom which makes the person have a difficult time getting thoughts together or expressing them. Disorganized thinking makes it v
ery hard for the person to focus on what other people are saying to them.
There are five major types of schizophrenia; Catatonic schizophrenia, Disorganized schizophrenia, Paranoid schizophrenia, Residual schizophrenia, and Schizoaffective Disorder. Catatonic schizophrenia is when the person is very withdrawn with a negative attitude and very isolated, and has psychomotor disturbances. Disorganized schizophrenia is when the person is very incoherent verbally and has moods and emotions that are very irrelevant and inappropriate of the situation. A person who has Paranoid Schizophrenia is very paranoid and suspicious of others plotting schemes against them or persecuting them because of their behavior, and hallucinations are very evident. One who has Residual Schizophrenia doesn’t suffer from delusions or hallucinations and etc., but they lack
