Book Review on ATLAS SHRUGGED

The story starts with describing a very successful company, the Taggart Transcontinental, whose economic status is worsening. As Dagny Taggart, vice president in charge of operations, works to revive the company’s crumbling status, her efforts are wasted due to the disappearance and retirement of the most talented businessman in the world. Whenever she needed a person who is most suited to help revive the company that person would mysteriously disappear.

Dagny curious about the disappearance of many successful men tries to find out the reason behind it. Together with Hank Rearden, whom she met when trying to save the company, they have discovered that there is a strike of the mind. Great industrialists are disappearing form the world because of the corruption of the government. The strike of the mind, led by John Galt, eventually leads to the destruction of the society.

When John Galt, the leader of the strike of the mind, made public the strike that is going on and the reasons behind the strike, the government unable to control the people suggested that they need John Galt to revive the world. The novel shows that the nature of human is greed and hunger for power. In our society, we see how people are destroyed by greed. Men’s actions in our society are always based on greed. Some people already have enough but they still crave for more. And when they have more, they still want more. It shows that you cannot satisfy men. They want to have everything by any means even if many people are affected.

Like a human being, the brain controls every aspect of our body. It moves our limbs, it processes what we see, smell, touch, hear and speak, and it controls our bodily processes. If the brain is to be damaged, our body would be incapable of movement, sensing, or some processes would be impaired. This would render the body useless. This is the same in a society. The mind is the backbone of a society. If the mind is gone, a society would definitely collapse. It is the core of a human society. Without it, eventually the society would be destroyed.
