Outline the different forms of feedback available to the ath

Feedback is the final part of information processing system. It can be used for the correction of errors, reinforcement and motivation, and strictly speaking feedback is a term used referring to information coming from within rather than the outside world. Now feedback is referred to as all the information in various forms a performer receives as a result of movement (Wesson & Wiggins, 2000). The coach is the most obviously common source of feedback evaluation is based on their judgements, measurements, times etc either during or after a session. To be effective this must be set against the training plan goals and expectations (Edge, FHS, 2000). When learning a new skill a performer will go through three stages of learning until the skill being learned is performed with little conscious control.

Cognitive stage: lots of visual and verbal guidance and practice in the from of trial and error.

Associative stage: the practice stage with the basics of the skill almost master and motor programmes become developed.

Autonomous stage: the final stage where the skill has become almost automatic and it is performed without stress.

Feedback can be split into two types. The first type is intrinsic or kin

(Schmidt, R.A. 1988 Motor control and learning)

‘Many writers (e.g., Adams, 1971; Fitts, 1964) think that the verbal-cognitive aspects of the task have largely dropped out of this stage, with the performer concentrating on how to do the particular pattern, rather than on which pattern of action should be produced’
