There was hard labor also involved with the stay of the inmates. They would have to get up before daybreak to go and work in the trenches. There were cold days when the prisoners were deprived of shoes, so suffering from frostbite to the feet was continuous. But not only physical suffering was endured, but emotional suffering as well.
