Macbeths Compulsion for Murder
Macbeth throughout the play murders several people, these murders are motivated mainly by two things: Macbeth himself, who he is and what he implies, and Lady Macbeth, who manipulates Macbeth’s weak personality to accomplish the assassinations. Macbeths excessive desire to obtain more than he could bear or/and deserve, takes him initially to kill the King, which later brings a sentiment of fear, because if the king died he would be king of Scotland. When King Duncan names Macbeth Thane of Cawdor showing gratitude for everything he had done, Macbeth begins to become a nemesis, yearning to be more than just the Thane of Crawdor. A sense of power, and thirst of power, grew on Macbeth’s head until these arose as his acts of treason and murder. On the other side Lady Macbeth is who encourages him to act this way, killing the king and Duncan. Macbeth is a person who would do everything in order to make his wife
happy and who is very manageable, allowing his wife to manipulate him into committing murder. Another thing that encourages Macbeth to act this way is the prophecy of the witches; this prediction makes Macbeth’s “hunger” for power greater, which at the hand of the other motivations lead to the murders. Lady Macbeth has an important role on all the murders; he is as guilty as Macbeth. She is sort of the intellectual murderer, since she is the one who planned everything to accomplish what she wanted: His husband and her becoming king and queen. Lady Macbeth is a manipulative person who manipulates his husband to commit murder and afterwards to act as normal so he wouldn’t be accused as murderer. Lady Macbeth is, if not more guilty, equally culpable for the assassinations. Once Macbeth has Murder his first victim, King Duncan, each and every murder afterwards is virtually “easier” to commit.
