The change in the Union’s flexfunds is a selfish maneuver by the University to recover debts that affected the residential dining. In fact, part of the logic of the flexfunds is that it will reduce the Union’s congestion of students using meal plans during optimal hours thus attracting real money from off-campus students, community members and faculty. I think it’s quite apparent that the students aren’t coming first in this manner. The flexfunds might be re-examined and altered for the spring semester, but the University will wait to see how it unfolds financially. It depends on the persistence of the students to keep on the administration to make changes. If we don’t address the issue, most likely they won’t either. If we no longer consider flex funds a problem, the University will no longer consider it an issue of the general student body. The voice of the students is more powerful than a lot of us think.
