Van Gogh: Master of Impressionism

Vincent Van Gogh: Master of Impressionism

He was and is a world renowned painter, church leader, art dealer, lover of long walks and letters to friends. Does this sound like an ad for eharmony.com? It’s Vincent Van Gogh, one of the first impressionist painters. He lived a short life, riddled with mental imbalance and wrought with question. One thing could not be questioned, however, was his undeniable talent.

Vincent van Gogh was born on March thirtieth, eighteen-fifty-three in the small town of Groot Zundert in the Netherlands. He was a quiet, clever child, but school simply did not hold the young fellow’s attention. He ended up going straight into the family business: art dealing. In his entire life, Van Gogh only saw two of his paintings sold. He was also given very mixed criticism for his work. Many people thought the impressionists were peculiar. After all, you could see their brush strokes.

Van Gogh was unique, there is no questioning that. His friends knew him as quiet and steadfast, his women found him charming and passionate. His teachers and other mentors found him a bit blundering, but he was good hearted. He was as liberal with his paint as he was with his adoration, his spirit as thick as the pigment on the page. Van Gogh was and will forever live on, as an artist.

One school of thought pins Van Gogh’s interesting ways on the fact that he was born a year to the day after a stillborn child by hi
