Medea

“The Medea,” by Euripides is a Greek Tragedy of a woman filled with love and

passion. A woman who has struggled her whole life with no family and left her

homeland to be with Jason. In this story she went through a immense amount of sorrow

and heartache. A poem was written about the play, “My Name is Medea,” by

Christopher Renny. This poem portrays a lot of the emotions brought out in the play. At

the same time, however, it explains Medea’s feelings and actions as justifiable, when

“Oh, I wish That lightening from heaven would split my head open. Oh, what use

have I now for life? I would find my release in death And leave hateful existence behind

me.“ (Line 143-147) Of course with any tragedy that one must experience, comes the

heartache and pain. What is spoken is not coming from a “well” person. Medea has
