Against Abortion

I think that different stages of human development during pregnancy can make a difference in the morality or immorality of the abortion. I think that different circumstances of pregnancy can also change the morality or immorality. On the issue of legality, I believe that the stage of pregnancy should make a difference as to when abortions are legal or illegal. However, in regard to circumstances, I don’t think that there are any which should make abortions illegal.

The different stages of development during pregnancy should make the difference in deciding when abortions are moral or immoral. I believe that life begins at viability. I think this because at this time the baby can survive outside of the mother. If the baby was had or removed at any time before this it most likely would not survive. At viability the baby is capable of living as its own being, without the direct sustenance of the mother. By direct sustenance I mean the food and nutrients from, and connection to the mother. Though I believe that life begins at viability, I don’t believe that abortion is moral until that point. Though I don’t believe that the baby is alive before viability, it is still capable of having life. Since this is true, I donâ€

™t think that abortions are moral after the halfway point of the second trimester. I think that four months is more than enough time to know if you want to keep the baby or not. I do believe that abortions before this time are moral because even though the baby is capable of having life at conception, most women do not find out that they are pregnant until after the first month. Also, when one first finds out that they are pregnant they cannot quickly decide on the spot that they want to have an abortion. Because of this, the person should get a certain amount of time to decide, and four months should plenty.

I don’t think that there are any circumstances that would make abortion illegal other than that the baby is living. In my case, they would already be illegal if they were in the third trimester. However, if abortions were already illegal, I think some circumstances would make them legal. In the situation of rape or incest, I believe that abortions should be legal because the act of sex was forced upon the person. Because of this, I think that the person who was raped should be able to choose whether she wants to keep the baby or not. In the case of unmarried women, if abortions were already illegal, I don’t think the woman’s unmarried state would be enough t
