Mrs. Loisel is a middle class woman with a taste for luxury. She has a good husband but just doesn’t appreciate him. She dreams constantly of this wealthy life that she desires, trying to forget about her real life in which she’s not so wealthy. In the story she tries to make everyone feel sorry for her, but in reality if she was grateful for the things she has, she would have a much better life. She would be content, and she wouldn’t be worrying about her dirty table cloth or her old dresses. Mrs. Loisel is very ungrateful, never satisfied, and only cares about herself.
Mrs. Loisel only cares about herself. She doesn’t care for her husband or anyone else for that matter. She always talks about how they are so poor, and they have nothing. She was always unhappy because she was a simple person. She believed she was destined for luxury. When she would go visit her wealthy friends she would cry for the entire day after with sorrow, regret, despair, and misery. She would even think about giving up her wealthy friend,
Mrs. Loisel is never satisfied. She had dresses to wear to the dinner party, but no she needed something better. She was very manipulative in her ways of getting money from her husband. When she wanted a new dress for the party she added things up in her head the highest amount she could ask for without getting an immediate refusal. Her husband always tried to convince her that what she had was sufficient, but she was never satisfied. She wanted more. “It’s awful, but I don’t have any jewels to wear, not a single gem, nothing to dress up my outfit. I’ll look like a beggar. I’d almost rather not go to the party.” He responded: “You can wear a corsage of cut flowers. This year it’s all the rage. For only ten francs you can get two or three gorgeous roses.” She was not convinced. “No…there’s nothing more humiliating than looking shabby in the company of rich women.” Her husband tried to save money and give in to his wife, but once again her heart wasn’t content.
