Abortion ends a new life growing inside a mother’s womb. Initially, the mother may see abortion as the easy way out, but most women are so traumatized by her horrible experience that in most cases she goes crazy. Furthermore, it is more than likely that she will experience horrible nightmares. It has been proven that mothers who has had an abortion are cruel to any children she has later because of guilt.

Could you live with a decision of that magnitude for the rest of your life? Most women fail to realize how developed the baby is at the time of abortion. More than fifty- percent of pregnancies among American women are unintended; half of these are terminated by abortion. Six out of ten women who have abortions has went through contraceptive failure (The Alan Guttmacher Institute vol.2).

Norma McCorvey, also known as Jane Roe, was pregnant unstable abandoned and poor. She wanted to get an abortion because she could not have another child at this point in her life. She had previously given birth to two children . In which her mother had one and her father had custody of the other. She once called this time in her life: “I was pregnant with my third child . . . Debbie later coped with her abortion which many woman don’t do. Some badger themselves so badly that they will never be the same again. Abortions can be the easy way out or just the right thing to do. Each individual knows what is best for them, some more than others, but they know. Fathers often feel the same guilt as the mother. Most fathers do not have any say so on what the mother decides. Mothers look at it as if it is their child and no one can tell them what to do. In other cases mother lets father have input and are willing to hear exactly where the father is coming from.

McCorvey went to seek legal advice because a doctor refused to help her abort her baby. Linda Coffee and Sarah Weddington offered to take the case probono, which means that they are not charging a fee (Durrett 12). Norma thought that they were going to help her out, but they were in need of a client to name in a case that would challenge the Texas laws against abortion ( Durrett 12). Norma not once thought that this case would help out every women in the country to have a voice and be able to do what they want to do with what is growing inside of them.

Most would not find her point valid. You have to put yourself in her shoes or at least try to understand what she could have been going through at the time. If you can do that you will realize that she did not that big of a mistake.

“There were people banging on the car window . . . That pretty much put me over the edge . . . People with . . . Fetuses . . . Dead . . . The whole bit. I mean I was upset enough any way, but that’s just a terrible experience” (Day 11)

December of 1971, the case of Roe vs. Wade reached the U.S supreme court. While the court was still so called undecided, Norma had a baby girl and put her up for adoption. So Norma never had the experience of having a abortion. She was standing up for what she thought she believed in. On January 22, 1973 the supreme court had a seven to two unanimous decision. The Texas law against abortion was proven to be unclear.
