Lord of the flies (man inherintly evil)

Some Reasons that I think man is naturally evil is because when all authority figures are taken out and man is free to do whatever he feels it is easy to see man is evil. The environment and persons surroundings are also what contribute to mans evilness. A person tends to adapt to his surroundings and if his surroundings are negative he will probably react negatively due to his surroundings. Another reason man is naturally evil is because of his desire for leadership/power. Humans are constantly fighting to be the best and to be the wealthiest, this desire could result in violence.

Man being evil is also due to the desire for total control and for wealth. “perpetual and restless desire [for] power… that ceases only in death,”(Thomas Hobbes) Thomas Hobbes believes that men are constantly fighting and killing for power and the fighting will only end in death. This is true because man is only looking out for the well being of them and always asking what is in it for them. “A war of every man against every man.”(Thomas Hobbes) By this he means that man is always at war against another person. He believes that if humans are left alone they will be naturally selfish. He thinks that man is always in competition due to our equality. Some people may argue and say that humans would get along just fine if they were to be left alone. I strongly disagree because as things started to get tougher and food started to become more scarce people would be fighting for themselves to ensure their own survival. I would have to say that overall Thomas Hobbes was correct in saying that “humans are essentially selfish creatures.”
