Is Vernacular Music Representative Of a Society’s Culture?

Often times individuals figure that cultural music is the chief musical representative of a society’s cultural background. Vernacular music also gives a fairly decent representation of a society’s cultural background and upbringings. In fact the matter of which form of music represents cultural characteristics has been a topic of debate for years and has sparked enormous controversy as many individuals have differing views on the matter.

In my opinion, vernacular music represents culture as vividly as concert music or perhaps even gives a greater understanding of one’s type of civilization

On the other hand, highly liberated societies such as that of America can also be quite easily distinguished because of the prevalent slang and profanity found in their music as opposed to a country like Singapore which is not as liberated.
