Having a Baby Changes Everything
The famous maker of many childcare products, Johnson and Johnson, said it best in their advertising campaign “Having a baby changes everything”. With that said many educated young couple will at one time or another think and have discussions about having an addition to their family. This kind of change can be fun, exciting, and challenging as well. People in general are very reluctant with change. That is mainly because we have been used to doing things as a “routine”. There are many things to think about when parents decide to have a child. The decision to have a child is not an easy one. Parents must consider to have one of them stay at home until at least the child reaches school age.Johnson and Johnson’s “Having a baby changes everything” campaign should be read and analyzed by young couples planning on having a baby. Their campaign explains; From the time you are born, you are the center of your universe. Everything you do is related to how things affect you. How you did in school, what you had for dinner, if your team wins, [...] It’s all about you. [...] You are the center of your universe. You fall in love and, if you’re lucky, you share a universe but you are still at the center. Then you
Many parents might say they are not as lucky or not able to work at home. If that is the case, at least try and spend more time with your family and children. One way is to take advantage of the many ways companies let you have more time with families. This includes shortened workweek which requires you to work nine hours every work day but only working on a five days one week and four days the next. Work closer to home to eliminate travel time especially if you live in an over populated cites. I am sure everyone has heard of people sitting in traffic hours at a time just to get to work and then do it again on the way home. Better yet, work for a company with a child day care on their facilities. This way at least you can be there if something happens to your child or at least you will be able to sit down at lunch time and enjoy each others company. This can even work better if you are health conscious person because then you have another reason to go for a walk during lunch time and the extra weight of a child either by carrying or pushing a stroller cannot hurt but help your efforts. The decision to have at least one of the parents to stay home to take care of a child is by far the best decision a parent can make. Today’s society no longer sees a typical family as that shown on TV shows a couple or so decades ago. Shows like Ozzie and Harriet, Father Knows Best, Leave It to Beaver, and The Donna Reed Show. A families modeled on the shows mentioned are often ridiculed. Ridiculed maybe but the trend shows that many families are going back to what these shows represent. Census data shows that many communities in North Carolina for example are moving towards single income household. “The Carolinas’ trend echoes a similar nationwide shift of more mothers staying home with their babies (Veverka 1D)”. The article also mentioned that in ten years, 1990-2000, parents with children under six are staying off the labor force, 2.14 percent down for North Carolina and down 1.1 percent in South Carolina. Parents are obligated to teach their children about accomplishment. They must, as parents, make their children feel proud of their own accomplishments and the rewards. Parents must instill to their children that when they want something bad enough, they should try their hardest to achieve their goal. The rewards will then be more meaningful and appreciated. On the other side of the spectrum, there are times that when a child has tried all he can or give all he can and still not able to fulfill the goal, this is the time that your children need you the most. As a parent, failure is hard to accept but even harder for a child that cannot understand while he failed when he gave it all he can. Children must learn that failure is not an end but rather a beginning. They must learn to learn from their mistake as well as that of others and move on. Parents need to encourage their children to keep trying, get up and try again or try something new because now they should by now realize that they are not perfect and that they are only human. Make them realize that failures and mistakes are part of life and that all they can do is learn from it. That is why as people gets older they become wiser, smarter and knowledgeable. They are now more knowledgeable and that life is all about experiences. They are only children once so do not rob them of their childhood because on the end you will end up paying more than what you have invested. An example of a “high tech” alternative is the use of the Internet. With the “information super highway”, there are many things a parent can do to generate revenue. Many parent stay home to buy and re-sell products in the Internet using many of the auction sites such as Ebay. There are also companies that are now willing to let people work from home if you are lucky enough or your knowledge is well sought after. The company will let you work at home by accessing everyt
