How can the Walsall Primary Care Trust improve employee motivation?Throughout this portfolio I am investigating, how Walsall Primary Care Trust motivates people in the work place, how they can improve it, and which motivation theories are used and are most effective. I am investigating the motivation of employees within the Walsall Primary Care Trust. Walsall Primary Care Trust delivers NHS Healthcare Services to the population living in the Borough of Walsall. Formerly Walsall Community Health Trust and Walsall Health Authority, Walsall Primary Care Trust was formally established 20 March 2002 and commenced the delivery of healthcare services as a Primary Care Trust to Walsall population on 1 April 2002. The vision for Walsall Primary Care Trust is: - · To offer Walsall people fast and convenient care delivered at a consistently high standard by implementing The NHS Plan through the health improvement and modernisation plan (HIMP). · To involve users and carers in order to provide patient centred services. · To have a locality focus which incorporates multi professional approaches. · To be a learning organisation that positively nurtures growth and development, valuing, promoting, and ret
This finding agrees with Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (see appendix…) but it is only a small sample. Unlike Frederick Winslow Taylor (see appendix…) Maslows believed that Money was not the only motivator. Like Mrs Sandhu his idea was there was different types of needs Physiological, safety, belonging, esteem and self-actualisation needs. These needs all fit in with what Mrs Sandhu said she enjoyed about the job. The things Mrs Sandhu enjoys at her job keeps her happy which would keep her at that job. This interview shows what Mrs Sandhu enjoys about the job and in this very small sample it proves that Maslows theory would work for my interviewee in that she is more motivated by other things than money. However there are parts of Mayo’s theory, which I disagree with, he believes, “A group collaboration does not occur by accident, it must be planned and developed”. This I think may apply sometimes but does not apply all the time, you can work in a group when it is not planned like other colleagues may help out and groups could be formed sub-consciously. My investigations have proved that the main factors of motivation for my interviewee Mrs Sandhu are varied and interesting tasks, job security and location of her job. Varied and interesting tasks are different for both people. Mr Harris rates it less then half important whereas Mrs Sandhu ranks it at her primary thing she looks for in a job. I believe Mrs Sandhu ranks this highest due to she is not the only earner in the household and also that she prefers to enjoy and do interesting work at her job than just do the same thing and get paid loads. This not only disagrees with Frederick Winslow Taylor’s theory but also disproves it. (See appendix...) He states that money is the highest motivator when it isn’t for this individual. This may be a small sample but it has showed cracks in his theory.
