America in the world
Ever since our humble beginnings, we have been a nation of peace. This has not come easily; it has been a long and hard road to becoming one of the wisest most powerful nations on earth. We were able to achieve this because of the a few brave men who were willing to stand out of the crowd and lead our country. These men were our presidents. Their Foreign policies brought peace and stability to many ports of the world, risking American lives and global destruction. At times, the United States’ foreign policy has been questioned by allies, neighboring nations and event its own citizens. This is what allows America to be great, the right to disagree, the right Americans and their leaders, the presidents try to preserve through foreign policy. One of these great leaders was Theodore Roosevelt. At the turn of the century our country was very optimistic about its future, it had a sprawling empire, the stock market was booming and the living conditions of Americans were improving. For most Americans the election of Teddy Roosevelt was a sign of good things to come. Roosevelt’s attitude toward the foreign policy of the United States was that, since American was becoming an Empire, it sho
The election of our 35th president, John F. Kennedy, proved to the World that America was changing, for the better. For the First time in the history of our nation, an Irish, Roman Catholic president had been elected into office. The time to rejoice was short though, a revolution had been brewing in Cuba for awhile and because of the support by the Eisenhower administration, Kennedy was left with a tangled diplomatic mess. Kennedy let his advisors convince him to commence a landing attack to help the revolutionaries, Kennedy reluctantly agreed, this was the greatest failure of his Foreign Policy. The Cubans hit back hard and 41 Americans lost their live because of the raid. The situation became deadly serious, on October, 14 U. S. Aircraft revealed Russian Warhead sites In Cuba. This was Kennedy’s greatest challenge in his presidency; the world for a few months came to the brink of nuclear Destruction. Nikita Khrushchev, the premier of the Soviet Union, used the missiles as a bluff to try to get the United States to remove warheads from West Germany. Kennedy called the bluff and refused to move the missiles. While American soldiers were assembling on the beaches of Cuba to invade the Cuban mainland, Khrushchev offered to withdraw the missiles only if America didn’t invade Cuba, this brought an end to the tensest nuclear standoff in the world. Although not as tense as the Cuban standoff, the space race was just as fierce, while the Russians beat America into space and in sending the first man into space, America earned the greatest honor of sending the first man to the moon on Apollo 11, a great American achievement in a time of great uncertainty in the World.
