Hamlet is a result of bad parenting
Hamlet as it is told is the story of a distressed prince, where the reader, audience, and characters of the story are trying to figure out if and how Hamlet has turned crazy. To the reader it appears as if Hamlet is a result of his visions of the ghost. To Hamlet’s friends and acquaintances of the story it seems he has just flipped out about his father’s mysterious death. Yet his mother or newly wed father cannot see anything wrong with Hamlet. QUOTE Each and every action children perform in school and in any place is a reflection of the quality of life they have in their own homes. Parents have a responsibility of taking care of their children and parents have the influence and impact that creates the primary personality of an individual. Relationships between father and son are a reoccurring theme in this story. The obvious is Hamlet and his father. His father’s ghost appears early on in act one to tell Hamlet to avenge his death. The rest of the story is of Hamlets thoughts and actions due to this vision. Other characters in the story show parallel relationships. That includes the relationship between Fortinbras and his father Fortinbras is the king of Norway, or the new king of Norway now that his father h
'O dear Ophelia, I am ill at these numbers; I have not art to reckon my groans: but that I love thee best, O most best, believe it. Adieu. Thine evermore, most dear lady, whilst this machine is to him,” (line 124). This letter is marvelously thought out. Not only does it fit a rhyme scheme, but also it speaks Hamlet’s love for Ophelia very strongly. The reason Hamlet is so incredible at writing letters also relates back to his relationship with his mother. At boarding school Hamlet’s only communication to home is through mail. He most likely wrote and received letters weekly. While his dad is dead, Claudius soon takes place as Hamlets father. Hamlet has no relationship with Claudius at the moment, it seems as if he doesn’t know much about Claudius at all. He soon takes a disliking to the new father, mainly due to the suspicion of foul play. Surprisingly Hamlet is able to sense shenanigans going around without the ghosts help. While still dressed in black for his father’s funeral he is already at his mother’s wedding. The ghost points out that Gertrude is not at fault for falling to Claudius's deceiving nature. QUOTE Claudius is a strong leader, and Hamlet feels he might even be using Gertrude for the power it gives him as king. Now not only has he murdered his biological father but he is using his mother as well. Even with this mess, Hamlet has no one to turn to talk to. Even though his father is dead, and has all the time in the world, he still doesn’t act like a fatherly figure to Hamlet. He tells him what he wants him to do, and that is all. Instead Hamlet talks to himself telling how he is bottling up all his emotions when he says QUOTE... foreshadowing the climax where he will explode at all the characters. Because of this letter Polonius orders Ophelia to confront Hamlet inquiring about his love. When she does Hamlet is caught in surprise and becomes defensive. He responds, “Get the to a nunnery. Go, farewell. Or if though wilt needs marry, marry a fool; for wise men know enough what monsters you make of them” (act 3, scene 1, line 147). Hamlet is unable to see that Ophelia trying to return his love. Unmercifully Hamlet yells at Ophelia without any regard to her feelings. His inability to recognize Ophelia’s true feelings has to do with the fact that he has not felt love from his mother, and does not know what love is supposed to feel like. Due to Hamlet’s poor relationship with his mother, he is unable to have a healthy relationship of his own. All he has seen in his life is Gertrude pretending to love Hamlet’s father while all along she is cheating on him with Claudius. While attaining similar traits of his mom, Hamlet cannot form true bonds with any women. Other than Claudius, Hamlets other living parent is Gertrude. He
