1. Everybody knows that Los Angeles has always been notorious for being the most gang-infested city in the country. However, not everybody knows the reasons under which these situations develop. Particularly, there have been two major events that evolved out of this "way of life" in Los Angeles. One is the Watts Rebellion of 1965 and the other the famous 1991 beating of Rodney King. Along with these we've continuously had uprisings here and there that never make it to the media or get any attention at all. The riots showed Americans the depressed conditions of the area and led to the initial discussion of a redevelopment effort within the community.

On March 3, 1991, four Los Angeles police officers beat and arrested Rodney Glen King while some twenty officers stood by and did nothing. George Holiday captured the beating on videotape from his apartment house across the street and delivered the tape to a local television station the next day. The tape was broadcast around the world, astonishing people around the globe and grabbing international attention on police brutality in Los Angeles.
