Yes, racism is the most influential oppression in American Society as a whole. It also has a more predominate affect on every area of life.
Racism has a predominate affect in our communities. People in our communities don’t interact well with each other. They judge each other by what they wear, the way they talk, and by the color of their skin. Everything to me is based on who or what is better to one individual. I recall doing the same thing that society does, when I was younger. I would judge people by the way they act and even by their skin color. Now as an adult I know how to respect everyone and treat all mankind as equal. Shelby Stelle said, “I think the real trouble between the races in America is that the races are not just races but competing power groups.”
Racism has also caused problems in the workplace. People aren’t paid according to their qualifications. But instead they’re paid because of their skin color. Studs Turkel said, “I can understand when a guy looks at his paycheck and looks at his bills, and he’s worked hard all the week, and his bills are larger than his paycheck.” This was my dad. After working hard for five years, instead of his boss giving him a raise he hired a white man and cut my dads hours.
