For the majority of the driving population, when we get in our car, it is usually to arrive at a certain destination at a certain time. Whether it is a dinner date and you only have 10 minutes to get there, or to the local store and you are hoping to be back by the time your favorite show comes on in a half hour. Even for those who just enjoy going for a casual drive, you would be a liar if you said you don’t give a huge sigh of annoyance when a car pulls in front of you and you can hardly see the person’s head over the steering wheel. This is a good indication that you are going to be following an elderly person and will more than likely not arrive to your destination on time.
Although I have only had my license for a mere 2 ½ years, I would consider myself a very skilled, and careful driver. I know to look both
Accidents like this are occurring more and more through the years with almost 10 percent of the nation’s drivers being over the age of 65. I know from my own experiences, my mom won’t even let me drive with my grandma. She isn’t a horrible driver but I definitely do not feel comfortable riding with her. I don’t know how, but she has yet to get in an accident. This is probably because she rarely ever drives over 40. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has ranked 70 and older to be more dangerous on the road than all drivers over the age of 24, and only less dangerous than 16 years old. I’m sure if 16 year olds would stop blasting their music within the first few weeks of getting their license, they would probably be safer drivers than the elderly as well.
