Attention deficit disorder
Many children today are being diagnosed with ADD. It is becoming so prevalent that it is almost normally widespread along all of the United States. In today’s schools it is likely that 40% of the problem children are likely to be diagnosed with ADD. Why is this happening? I think it is almost apparent the reason for this although it is often considered taboo to talk about. Many researchers and clinicians still believe that this disorder is caused by an imbalance and should be treated with the appropriate medicine. I feel different. I think when these children grow up in poverty stricken communities in this nation, the parents are poor, undereducated and struggling. Many are working two or more jobs and giving less attention to their children to teach them and help them develop the skills they need to grow as children into young adults. ADD is characterized by a common group of symptoms. The core symptom is inattention and it is the most important. A child with inattention is distracted easily and cannot sustain attention on a task or activity, especially if this activity is boring or unexciting to them. These children are fighting a problem they don’t understand. At home these children were not told to sit down
