The novel 'Of Mice and Men' written by John Steinbach is set in California in between two world wars.

My critical evaluation will concentrate on George Milton. George and Lennie Small travel around together. Lennie is slow, big built and child like where as George is his total opposite. He is small, thin ,quick, strong featured and brainy, George has a lizard like appearance.

In the novel George is always looking out for Lennie because things he does wrong he doesn't realise what he is doing wrong or right .George is definately the dominant one. George has to remind Lennie where they are going and who people are like he can never remember his aunt Clara who looked after him before she passed away.

Lennie is very dependant

Lennie depends on George to look after him and tell him what to do if he gets into fights. An example of this is when Curley picks a fight with him Lennie shouts at George to help him or tell him what to do, this proves George was right when he said that Lennie couldn't look after himself.
