Walter Elias Disney

On January first of 1888, Elias Disney and Flora Call got married. During the first five years of their marriage, Flora gave birth to their first three sons. Herbert Disney was born in 1888, Raymond Disney was born in 1890, and Roy Disney was born in 1893. In 1901, when Flora became pregnant with her fourth son, the family was living in Chicago, Illinois. Here Elias was making his living as a carpenter and builder. Walter Elias Disney was born on December fifth, 1901. Two years later, Flora gave birth to her daughter, Ruth Disney. This completed the Disney family.

Soon after the birth of their last child, the Disney family moved to a 45-acre farm in Marceline, Missouri that belonged to Elias’s brother. This is where Walt Disney spent most of his childhood. Walt’s artistic ability was discovered early in his life. He would draw on anything and everything. He sold artwork to his neighbors to make some extra money. He made a few trips back to the studio, working on The Jungle Book and a few other animated films, but spent most of his last weeks with his family. On November 30, he went back to the hospital. And on December 15, he died.

On February 10, 1941, Walt spoke to his staff, trying to win them over. It was too late. In May, Walt was hit with a strike. He was deeply hurt by the picketers. He grew so sick of how he was being treated that he left for South America. By the time he returned, the strike had been settled. But Walt would never be able to fully trust his staff as he had before, nor would he ever again look at them as the family that he had before. He now knew that business was strictly business.

An entrepreneur is a risk-taker. It is someone that has an idea, and is in search of making a profit. I think that Walt Disney is a perfect example of an entrepreneur. He n
